When I was in my 30's I used to drink and drive. I was in a really bad smash up and even though I was not driving (that time) it was a night I can never forget. one does not realize how bad these things can be until it happens to you.
Really not a big deal to designate one person in a group as the driver. we take turns now and everybody has a great time (the driver, not so much) but they get to drink on the next one.
